Home automation: creating intelligent spaces

The term may not be part of everyday vocabulary, but home automation is increasingly present in our daily lives and a great help in smoothing out daily tasks and routines.

The Portuguese word for it, Domótica, comes from joining “Domus”, meaning house, with “Robótica”, which is tied to the act of automating — carrying out actions automatically.

So when we talk about home automation we are referring to the platforms that create automated controls for homes and for buildings in general.

More important than knowing what the word means is knowing why it is worth investing in and what it does day to day.

This field has in fact grown enormously in recent years, driven by technology that keeps producing devices with more features, easier to install and to use. The result: integrated, intuitive solutions for every kind of building.

It is no surprise, then, that home automation is increasingly part of architecture and design projects, with builders and architects aware that it offers solutions which simplify daily life and add value to what they are building.
